As California voters prepare for the November 3, 2026, General Election, Grand Terrace residents have a convenient way to return their completed ballots without traveling outside the city. An official ballot drop box opened October 2 at the Grand Terrace Civic Center, providing around-the-clock access throughout the election period.
The secure drop box is located outside the Grand Terrace Library, on the west end of the Civic Center building at 22795 Barton Road. According to the City, it will remain accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3. The San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters is responsible for operating the box, collecting ballots and transporting them for election processing.
The opening is particularly timely because Grand Terrace voters will be making decisions about local leadership in addition to participating in countywide and statewide contests. The City's November election includes the mayor's seat and one City Council seat. Grand Terrace is governed by a five-member council consisting of the mayor and four councilmembers, with representatives elected at large rather than from individual geographic districts.
The City's election calendar identifies October 5 as the beginning of early voting and the date mail ballots were scheduled to be delivered to the U.S. Postal Service. The voter registration deadline is October 19, while October 27 is listed as the deadline to request a replacement mail ballot. These dates give residents several opportunities to review their voting arrangements before Election Day.
For many voters, convenience is an important consideration. Work schedules, transportation challenges, family responsibilities and other obligations can make it difficult to visit a polling location during limited hours. A locally available ballot drop box offers another method of returning a completed ballot at a time that fits a resident's schedule.
The Grand Terrace location is also significant because it places election access at a familiar community destination. The Civic Center houses important municipal services, while the adjacent library serves residents of different ages and backgrounds. Locating a ballot box in this setting brings an essential part of the democratic process into a place residents already associate with public service.
Security remains a central concern in election administration. The City reports that the Registrar of Voters has completed inspections of the ballot box and will continue routine inspections during the election period. County election officials are responsible for the collection and transportation of ballots, rather than City staff.
Residents who want to confirm their registration status, locate their assigned polling place or review ballot information can use the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters' online resources. Checking information directly with election officials is especially important when voters encounter conflicting claims about deadlines, locations or procedures.
Grand Terrace has maintained its identity as an incorporated city since 1978, when residents established their own municipal government. Local elections remain one of the most direct ways residents participate in determining how that government operates.
Although the ballot box is a relatively small addition to the Civic Center, its purpose reaches beyond convenience. It provides another accessible route for residents to participate in decisions affecting their city, their county and their state.
The November election will determine who serves in public office, but the strength of Grand Terrace's civic life will continue to depend on residents who remain informed, engaged and willing to participate.
