REDLANDS >> Last week, more than 140 golfers teed off at Redlands Country Club for the 35th annual Redlands Community Hospital Foundation Golf Classic for the Ken Corwin Cup to raise $220,000 for the hospital’s emergency department expansion. The tournament, which for more than three decades has served as Redlands Community Hospital’s largest and most visible fundraising event. The proceeds from the event’s sponsorships, golfer participation and auctions will support expansion and renovation of the hospital’s growing emergency department. Upcoming renovations include the development of an eight-bed fast track area, a 12-bed pod for moderately ill or injured patients, a 12-bed high-acuity pod with two critical-care rooms, five rapid medical evaluation/triage stations and additional nursing stations and offices. “We want to thank all of our participants and sponsors for coming together for an afternoon of great fun and to raise a significant amount of funds to support our hospital’s emergency department expansion.” said Jan Opdyke, president of the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation. “Our E.R. provides lifesaving care to residents throughout the Inland Valley community and the renovation will increase the number of beds and reduce wait times for our patients.” Following the tournament, participants gathered in the clubhouse for a special awards dinner featuring live and silent auctions during the festivities; tickets to Disneyland and premier tickets to Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim games were included among the many items auctioned off. A variety of golf-related items, including equipment were also raffled off during the dinner. The Ken Corwin Cup is dedicated to the memory of Kenton W. Corwin, longtime president of the hospital foundation and a prime mover in the tournament’s establishment and success. The tournament was managed by more than 80 volunteers from the hospital, the country club and the community. The events sponsors included Hamilton Construction, of Pomona; Lockton Insurance Brokers, Los Angeles; and Citizens Business Bank, San Bernardino.
