On Friday, March 8, the Bloomington community came together for a historic night—the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Kessler Park Revitalization Project and the opening ceremony of the Bloomington Little League Baseball season.
Emceed by Bloomington Recreation and Parks District Recreation Superintendent Aaron Speer, the event was a testament to the collaborative efforts of local leaders, community members and dedicated volunteers. Speakers at the event included Assemblymember Eloise Gomez Reyes, San Bernardino County Chief Executive Officer Luther Snoke, Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., and Los Angeles Dodgers alumni Mickey Hatcher and Derrel Thomas.
The recent improvements at Kessler Park include multiple upgrades aimed at enhancing the overall park experience, such as renovations to the snack bar, restrooms and the addition of a new shade canopy. The corridor project added concrete walkways, new Dodger blue fencing, conduits to support future Wi-Fi, improved drainage and shelters.
These upgrades not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the park, but also improve accessibility and functionality for all who visit.
Supervisor Baca, Jr. summed up the significance of the revitalized park, stating, “This well-maintained and modernized park has become and will continue to serve as a vibrant gathering place. It will promote physical and mental well-being, strengthen social connections and provide a safe and enjoyable environment for people of all ages to come together and create lasting memories.”
The event was an exciting night for all that attended, the kids who kicked off their baseball season, proud family members and Special Districts staff who enjoyed seeing their successes come to life and enjoyed by all. With approximately 1,000 people in attendance, you could feel the community’s enthusiasm and support for the transformative project. More improvements are coming to Kessler Park in the future and we are excited to see what’s next for the Bloomington Recreation and Parks District.
