LOMA LINDA>> In celebration of Native American History Month, the Office of Diversity Loma Linda University School of Medicine invites the public to a free photography and art exhibit on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Entitled “Dr. Vincent Gardner, Medicine & Mission: Years with the Navajo Nation”, the exhibit is scheduled to run from 12 – 5 p.m. at the Wong Kerlee International Conference Center located on the Loma Linda University campus. This exhibit represents a insight into the daily life of a committed physician that dedicated his ministry of healing to the most needy and poor. On display will be the original photographs of Dr. Vincent Gardner, class of 1944, taken by famous photographer, Phillip Harrington of Look Magazine; many were featured in the magazine's Sept. 4, 1956 issue. The exhibit will also display original artwork from the Navajo Nation and includes hand-woven Navajo rugs, sand pictures, pottery and handcrafted wood art. Gardner, a graduate from Loma Linda University School of Medicine, along with Marvin Walter, served as missionaries jointly with their wives. They established the Monument Valley Clinic in Utah for the Navajo Indians. The photographs and artwork are on loan to by Gardner’s son, Dr. Robert Gardner, PhD, and his wife Dr. Susan Gardner, PhD.
