Kevin Greeland, MFA, a contemporary artist and art educator known for his colorful and provocative work in painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, performance and bookmaking will present a free, two-hour demonstration of painting materials and techniques using popular Golden Acrylics products during the February meeting of the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association (LLCAA). The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at the Loma Linda Senior Center, located in the southeast corner of the Loma Linda civic complex at 25541 Barton Road in Loma Linda. The Golden free lecture and demonstration is a fun and fast-paced informative educational presentation on acrylic paints and related products from mediums to gels and pastes. The lecture covers different types of acrylic paint formulations, pigments, and their related viscosities, as well as color theory and color reality, drying time, and health and safety. Artists and wannabe artists at all levels of experience are invited to learn how acrylics can be used as grounds for other media, such as watercolor, colored pencil, pastels and other applications. Greeland’s paintings are visually intriguing for their mixing of colors, intellectual puzzles, and references to art history. “I’m inspired by the scientists and naturalists of the Enlightenment, the early-romanticized expeditions, and the art patrons whose collections formed the basis for the world’s great museums,” Greeland notes in his Artist Statement. “My installations and artwork are assembled for display in the spirit of those great collectors of exotic specimens and wondrous renderings. I invite the viewers to become participants and join the expedition in exploring these artificial places, with alluring folktales, and unique landscape.” The intimate setting of LLCAA monthly meetings offers an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the guest artist during and after the demonstration, and to closely examine the work in progress. Sharan Bennett, LLCAA president, says, “Mr. Greeland’s art represents a courageous departure from the more literal styles we have presented in the past. We are very excited to glean new insights from this recognized master of contemporary art.”
