On Sept. 2, the Sierra Club of San Gorgonio hosted an event at the San Bernardino County Museum. Every month this club offers meetings that typically have to do with travel adventures and the outdoors. On Tuesday’s meeting, the Sierra Club hosted a Tracy Hutchinson in her travel adventures to Peru. Miss Hutchinson, a former Marine, is working towards visiting the Seven Wonders of the World, and Peru happened to be on her bucket list of places to visit. Hutchinson lives her day-to-day life as a professional house-sitter, and owns three independent businesses which include: a Life-skills coach, strategy and management in social media, and teaching (mainly seniors) how to maneuver and use Apple computers. With the money she makes, Hutchinson travels to different parts of the world. She has already visited Machu Picchu in the Cusco Region of Peru, the Taj Mahal in India, and the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. While in Peru, Hutchinson shared some of the places she had visited with the members of the Sierra Club. Her travels included: Larcomar-a shopping center in the Miraflores district of Lima, Peru; MiraFlores- a district of the Lima province known for its shopping ares, garden, and flower-filled parks and benches; Plaza Mayor, or Plaza de Armas of Lima-which is the birthplace of Lima, as well as the core of the city. Tracy informs members of the Sierra Club about Plaza Mayor. "This city is the heart of the Inca world…the Incan Empire,” she said. These spots were only some of many places Hutchinson visited in Peru. She provided a slide-show filled with pictures and videos of her travels in and around it. Others who were hoping to visit Peru, who are members of the Sierra Club, were free to ask her questions about her travels, where to visit, and tours to avoid. After this trip, Hutchinson is planning to save up for her next visit to Ireland next summer, and to Alaska the summer after that. Sierra Club member Tracy Hutchinson will give a talk and slide show of her “Adventure in Peru”. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at the San Bernardino County Museum, 2024 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands. Tracy’s Peru trip took her to Lima, the nation’s capital, Cuzco, the ancient seat of the Inca Empire, and Machu Picchu, the mysterious lost city of the Inca. The trip was part of her grand plan to visit all seven of the Wonders of the Modern World which includes Machu Picchu. While in Lima she stayed in Miraflores, a pleasant seaside district. Her stay included a visit to Lima’s new Magic Water Tour with its many spectacular fountains that are colorfully illuminated at night. Though receiving very little rainfall, coastal Peru has five percent of the world’s water supply due to the many rivers flowing down from the Andes. Cuzco, like Lima has many Colonial Era churches, palaces and monasteries. Many of the old Cuzco buildings incorporate stones from earlier Inca temples and palaces. At an elevation of 10,000 feet Cuzco is also a great place to acclimate before starting the trek to Machu Picchu. Tracy’s five-day tour from Cuzco to Machu Picchu included visits to several Inca ruins, a mountain bicycle descent from 14,000 feet through the Sacred Valley, flying over the tree tops via a zip line, and soaking in the Aguas Calietes hot springs. Machu Picchu itself is truly a wonder of the world. Tracy is a life skills coach, tech “guru” and social media strategist residing in Riverside. She has authored the book Revealing the Hero Within. All are welcome to attend the meeting. Parking and admission are free but donations are accepted for room rental.
